Termite Professional Seminar Series – Professional Pest Manager

On Friday 19th June, Allure Pest Solutions attended the Termite Professional Seminar at Carina.

Like most people in the pest management industry, we spend a lot of time talking about termites, looking for termites and treating termites. However, days like this are a good reminder that there is always something new to learn.

A Day Focused on Termite Knowledge

The seminar brought together pest managers from across South East Queensland and covered a wide range of topics, from the fundamentals of termite biology right through to some of the more advanced aspects of termite behaviour and colony dynamics.

One thing that stood out throughout the day was how much is still happening behind the scenes in a termite colony that most people never see.

Understanding More Than Just Timber Damage

Homeowners generally see termites as insects that eat timber, but successful termite management relies on understanding much more than that. How termites forage, how they respond to changes in moisture, how colonies expand, and how different species behave all play a role in determining the best treatment approach.

There was plenty of discussion around the common species we encounter in South East Queensland and the subtle differences between them. Even experienced technicians can benefit from revisiting the fundamentals because those fundamentals are often what help identify a problem correctly in the field.

Some of the more advanced presentations looked at colony behaviour, foraging patterns and the factors that influence treatment outcomes. These sessions generated a lot of discussion amongst attendees because they related directly to situations that technicians encounter every day.

Learning from Industry Peers

One of the things we enjoy most about industry seminars is hearing the experiences of other pest managers. While the science is important, there is also a great deal to learn from people who have spent years solving termite problems in real homes and commercial buildings.

It’s always interesting to hear how other technicians approach difficult infestations, unusual colony locations and treatment challenges. Sometimes a conversation over a coffee break can be just as valuable as a presentation.

The day reinforced something we already know: termites are incredibly adaptable insects. The more we understand their biology and behaviour. The better positioned we are to detect activity early, locate colonies and develop effective management programs for our clients.

Bringing That Knowledge Back to Our Customers

At Allure Pest Solutions, we place a strong emphasis on continuing education. Pest management is constantly evolving and we believe our clients benefit when we continue investing time in training and professional development. The learning never stops.

We would like to thank the organisers and presenters for putting together an informative event and sharing their knowledge with the industry. These included Assoc. Professor Theo Evans (University of Western Australia), Assist. Professor Johnalyn Gordon (University of Florida) and Dr Phil Ridley.

We left Carina with a notebook full of ideas, a few new perspectives and plenty of conversations that continued well after the seminar finished. That’s what makes events like these so valuable.

Most importantly, we came away with knowledge that will help us continue protecting homes and businesses throughout South East Queensland from one of the region’s most significant timber pests.
