1. How long have you been working in the pest control industry?
I officially began my pest management career in January 2024 after making the leap from being a baker. That said, my first real taste of the industry came much earlier, back in 2021 when I moved to Brisbane. At the time, I worked on and off as a labourer for my brother’s father-in-law, helping to install termite management systems. That experience ensured my curiosity about pest control, and it eventually grew into a career.

2. When did you join Allure Pest Solutions?
I joined the Allure team in January 2024, right at the start of my formal career in pest control.

3. What made you decide to get into pest control?
Honestly, it was about work–life balance. When I was a baker, my hours were brutal — think 2 a.m. starts and long days. It left little room for my personal life and the balance that both my partner and I needed. Pest control offered me a fresh career path with more reasonable hours, but also something new and challenging to sink my teeth into.

4. What was your first job in the industry, and how did it lead to where you are now?
My first experience was as a labourer installing termite management systems. Coming from a cold climate, termites were something I had never encountered before — I didn’t even know people had to protect their homes from them! That sparked a fascination in me. When I was looking for a career change, that early experience with termites made pest management feel like the natural choice.

5. Do you have any special qualifications or certifications related to pest management?
While I didn’t have a list of specialist certifications or qualifications when I first started, I did bring a strong customer service background to the role. Growing up in a small town taught me how important it is to be personable, approachable, and understanding. I carry those values into every job I do.

6. What’s your favourite type of pest to treat and why?
Without a doubt — termites. While I’m nicknamed “Stuart Little the Rodent Killer,” I think termites are fascinating. Each species requires a different approach and type of treatment, which means no two jobs are the same. It keeps me constantly learning, and I love that.

7. What types of jobs or challenges do you enjoy the most?
I love live termite jobs. The complexities of these jobs really makes the technician think about what type of termite is in the home, where the incursion into the home originated from and what treatment is best for the species that we are dealing with. For homeowners, discovering live termites is a stressful and even frightening experience. Being able to step in, assess the situation, and resolve the issue gives me a real sense of pride. It’s about more than just pest control — it’s about giving people peace of mind in their own home.

just pest control — it’s about giving people peace of mind in their own home.

8. Are there any pests or treatments you find particularly interesting or satisfying to handle?
Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA) are by far the most interesting part of pest management here in South East Queensland. Their invasion into Brisbane is not just a local issue I would say  it’s one of the biggest biosecurity threats Australia has faced. These ants are aggressive, highly adaptive, and spread quickly, which makes them a serious danger to people, pets, wildlife, agriculture and our very way of life.

What fascinates me most is the scale of the challenge. Unlike many other pests, RIFA aren’t confined to a single backyard they can spread across suburbs and ecosystems really fast, so the work we do has a much broader impact. Being on the frontline of detecting and treating these infestations feels like you’re part of something bigger, helping to protect not just Brisbane or Queensland, but the whole of Australia from long-term damage.

It’s also a very specialised area of pest control. Treatments have to be precise and carefully managed to ensure the colony is eliminated, and there’s a lot of collaboration between pest managers, government programs, and the community. For me, that combination of science, teamwork, and national importance makes RIFA management the most interesting and meaningful aspect of my job.

9. What’s something most customers don’t realise about pest control?
Many people don’t realise how essential pest management really is. It’s just as important as calling in an electrician for faulty wiring or a plumber for a leaking pipe. Annual pest control is a form of preventative maintenance that protects homes and families.

10. What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day work?
I love problem-solving. Every home presents a different challenge, and being able to investigate, figure out what’s happening, and provide a solution is really rewarding. Plus, the constant learning, both about the industry and the insects themselves, keeps things fresh.

11. How do you approach customer service when visiting a home?
Entering someone’s home is a big responsibility and requires trust. I always treat customers the way I’d want someone to treat me if they were in my home, with respect, professionalism, and zero judgement! It is not for me to judge anyone how they live; I am there to deal with an issue.

12. Can you share a memorable or funny story from a job?
While I’ve had plenty of funny or memorable moments, what really sticks with me are the customers who remember me a year later. When I return to a property and they recall our past conversations, or mention something personal we talked about, it’s a reminder that this job is about more than just pests, it’s about building relationships.

13. What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my partner Ange. I’m also a big fan of tabletop games like Warhammer 40k — my favourite army is the Tau, “for the greater good”. On top of that, I play Dungeons & Dragons with friends once a week, which is always a highlight, as these are the guys I have played DnD with for over a decade.

Are you a local to the area you service? If not, what brought you here?
I moved to Brisbane in 2021 and absolutely love it here. My brother was already living here, and I wanted to be closer to him, plus, leaving behind a cold climate made the decision even easier!

15. What’s something your teammates would say about you?
I’d like to think they’d say I’m genuine, friendly, energetic, and hardworking. Hopefully, they’d agree!

16. What do you love most about working at Allure?
Allure Pest Solutions is the best workplace I’ve ever been a part of, and I’m not just saying that! They genuinely care about their team, with regular activities and lunches that make us feel valued as people, not just numbers. There’s also a strong focus on growth, both personal and professional. Education and staying ahead of the curve in pest management are priorities here, which is exciting to be part of.

17. What motivates you to do your best on the job?
I’m motivated by the culture at Allure. When you feel like part of a family, you naturally take pride in the work you do. It’s more than just a job, it’s being part of a business you’re proud to see grow, alongside a team you respect.

18. What’s one thing you wish every homeowner knew about pest management?
Pest management isn’t what it used to be. It’s not about carelessly spraying chemicals, many of which are now banned for good reason. Today, it’s about integrated pest management, where chemicals are only used when and where they’re necessary. A huge amount of training and education goes into being a pest management professional, and the goal is always to balance safety, effectiveness, and sustainability.
