Termite activity increase. In the quiet little town of Dayboro (est. early 1860’s), located on the Northside of Brisbane, approximately 60 minutes from the CBD, termites have certainly made themselves right at home. Allure Pest Solutions (formerly Conquer Termites Northside) have been situated within the area for almost 10 years now. The General Manager resides in one of the main streets in town and one of our lovely administrators lives up by the school.
Beautiful leafy suburb
What is interesting is the recent increase in termite inspections and consequently the location of termite activity, the treatment of these infestations (ensuring colony control) and installation of preventative termite management systems (for peace of mind) in this little town. Our operations manager, Joel Mitchell, who has been in the industry for almost 30 years, suggests that this may be due to the high rainfall and heavily forested areas that surround this small outpost of Brisbane.

Acreage blocks
With ageing acreage blocks, the likes of Saddleback Drive, Lacey Creek Road, Mt Pleasant Road, Mount Mee Road, Rail Close and even Williams Street, seem to be the unlucky hosts of a handful of different subterranean termite species such as Coptotermes (Acinaciformus and Frenchi), Schedorhinotermes and Microcerotermes. What’s worse is that these particular species are some of the most aggressive termites in Australia. One positive is that in South East Queensland we don’t have many of the biggest and most destructive termites in Australia – Mastotermes darwiniensis (a few nests were located and treated in the Gold Coast a few years back, but they have not been reported since then).
Moisture, mudding and the mighty termite mess
Customers have been calling asking questions about the tell-tale signs of termites. Mudding up the sides of building walls, areas of heavy moisture looming in the roof voids above them and tunnels leading up from subfloors to the timber holding up their structures. Through a combination of thorough visual termite inspections, pre-purchase inspections, special purpose inspections and the use of additional equipment such as thermal imaging cameras, borescopes, moisture meters and Termatracs, the technicians at Allure Pest Solutions have been able to identify termite activity, narrow down the termite species and correctly treat the live infestation in these homes.
The species of termite, matters
Treatments for live termites vary from species to species and can involve multiple site visits (with follow up checks to confirm eradication), application of termiticide or baiting station set ups (known as above ground baiting). Once we are confident that we have eradicated the termites from the home, which can be challenging, especially if they are Coptotermes Frenchi – known for their elusiveness and their multiple feeding sites, we can give our customers the all clear to proceed with a preventative termite treatment.
Some options work, some don’t
There are multiple options for long term termite treatments. These change according to the variables we encounter on site. Some houses require bait stations, some houses are perfect for a straight forward liquid application and some will need a combination of both. Allure Pest Solutions provide as many options as possible to ensure we give customers choice and are mindful of their budgets. There’s an interest free payment plan available too, allowing you to split the bill across multiple months.
